Nick

Nick is the founder and head Remedial Therapist at In Motion Muscle Therapy. Growing up in New Zealand Nick’s life revolved heavily around sports, whether that was training every night of the week for different competitive sports such as rugby union or surf life saving or simply spending every hour of sunlight at the beach surfing with good friends. As Nick has grown and matured his interest in not only sports but how the human body operates has grown immensely which has led him down the path of becoming a Remedial Massage Therapist. Through years of experience in the field Nick has become hugely passionate about keeping people pain free and active for as long as possible whether they be athletes or anybody looking to improve their quality of life.

REMEDIAL MASSAGE

During a remedial massage treatment, my aim is to help you move towards a better future by eliminating pain, dysfunction and imbalance in the body and helping you create a better version of yourself. Remedial massage is perfect for the person looking to eliminate pain from their life and work on specific issues in the body. Techniques used can range from but not be limited to Muscle energy techniques, Myofascial release, Neuromuscular techniques, PNF Stretching, Trigger point release, Dry Needling, Joint Mobilisations, Cupping and many more.  I am also a strong believer in educating my clients through different strengthening, stretching and self-care exercises to take home and work through in your own time to meet goals set during our session.

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports massage is great for the athlete looking to prepare for an event or recover post-event. It is also good for active people who are after an all-round tune-up to improve performance. Techniques and pressure will be altered according to where you are in your training or sport and whether it is a pre-event warm-up or post-event cool down/recovery. Dry needling is a favourite in my books due to it’s efficiency and results in and out of the clinic, it is relatively painless and very effective.

DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is a favourite in my books due to it’s efficiency and results in and out of the clinic, it is relatively painless and very effective. Dry needling is a form of treatment where an acupuncture needle is inserted into a precise point of a muscle to gain a local twitch response and release myofascial trigger points (knots) within the muscle. By releasing these trigger points you are often left with benefits such as but not limited to

  • Decreases pain
  • increased range of motion
  • increased blood flow
  • reduced joint pain and stiffness

CUPPING

Myofascial cupping is a form of treatment where a glass, plastic or bamboo cup is placed on the skin then pressure is reduced either by heat or suction in order to draw the skin and superficial muscle tissue and fascia inside the cup. The cups are placed on areas of tightness, pain or dysfunction and the supping process draws blood from your vessels and into your tissue. Your body thinks its been injured so “jumpstarts” a positive infammatory response mobilising antibodies to heal the area. At In Motion Muscle Therapy we also have found that active release through cupping is a very effective form of treatment.

Benefits include but are not limited to

  • increased blood flow and healing capacity.
  • decreased tissue sensitivity.
  • decreased pain.
  • increased range of motion.

JOINT MOBILISATION

Passive and active joint mobilisation techniques are an effective way of improving joint-related dysfunction and pain. These techniques are relatively painless and provide great results such as but not limited to, an increase in range of motion, a decrease in pain, and increased confidence when moving into areas that previously caused pain or discomfort.

DYNAMIC LEG COMPRESSION

Normatec compression boots use dynamic air compression to create a restorative massage to increase circulation, revive muscles, and reduce swelling. Normatec boots have been the choice of elite athletes to assist in their recovery for a long time and continue to lead the charge in recovery.
